FREDDIE McGREGOR & SHADOW
IN SPECTACULAR EASTER CONCERTS
Reggae icon Freddie McGregor, soca star Shadow and steelpan composer Ken "Professor" Philmore are scheduled to perform in two sizzling concerts on Easter weekend at Brooklyn College, Saturday, March 30th and at Carib New York, New Rochelle, Easter Sunday, March 31st.
The positive vibes between Freddie McGregor and Shadow were emitted in the studios of WLIB Radio one December morning when the two music legends made guest appearances on the Dahved Levy/Anne Tripp Show. The feeling that both music geniuses share something in common--the love of music and the joy of doing concerts--resonated. It was discovered that both stars for a very long time loved each other's music and style but never met.
They are about to perform together for the first time in what is billed as "Legends In Concert: Freddie McGregor & Shadow." Freddie McGregor is coming with his eight-member band direct from Kingston, Jamaica and fans are expecting him to render many of his hits, including the classic "Big Ship."
Reggae columnist Winston Smith writes: "Freddie in his live performances and records have thrilled millions with his mellow magic and soothing tenor. This singer extraordinaire is set to release his 37th album, simply titled ‘For You', a working title." Last year and in 2000, Freddie joined John Holt & Ken Boothe for two sold out performances with the British Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the London Hammersmith Apollo. His song, "Lover's Rock", was featured in the critically acclaimed HBO movie "Disappearing Act".
Shadow is backed by his Global Explosion Band, the very band that gave him his super concert in Central Park last summer. It is Shadow's first performance in the U.S. for 2002 and fans can't wait to see him do his 2002 monster hit "Goumangala" and the number one and number two soca tunes around the world for 2001, "Looking For Horn", and "Stranger".
Joining McGregor and Shadow is another legend, Ken "Professor" Philmore, the renowned steelpan composer, arranger and soloist who has toured with the Count Basie Orchestra and Duke Ellington Orchestra. Ken "Professor" Philmore & Friends have been captivating audiences across the Caribbean with funky and jazzy renditions. For Trinidad & Tobago's 2002 carnival, the Professor composed the panorama tune for the famous Invaders Steel Orchestra.
