Story" herself.>
Jamaican Amina Blackwood-Meeks is the complete
Caribbean teller. She has been a teller at all of the GIMISTORY
Festivals and is a favorite of the Caymanian audiences . Her telling
of Anansi stories is unique and exciting. Amina is a trained
teacher, dramatist now turned farmer, but still one of the most
popular island storytellers.
Antonio Rocha, a native of Brazil came to the USA
to perform and deepen his mime skills. He has performed in
Singapore, Brazil , England and Aruba. He brings to life the sights
and sounds of the rainforest and its rollicking and wildly
entertaining inhabitants. Using storytelling, masks, and sound
effects, he takes audiences to the Amazon and Brazil and around the
world.
Paul Meddellijn from Suriname was born
into a family of storytellers, listening to tales about the old
world, invisible cities, African heroes of the jungle, myths and
legends of his ancestors and of course stories of the smart spider
Anansi. He is always travelling around the world, seeking new
adventures, sharing stories and searching for the child within us,
regardless of our age.
Ken Corsbie is a Guyanese/Trinidadian
now lives in Long Island, New York and performs throughout North
America. He claims to be part Chinese, African, Scottish,
Amerindian, Welch and also storyteller, stand-up comedian, poetry
performer and dramatist. He helped "instigate" the GIMISTORY
Festival, and this will be the sixth time he will be participating
in this unique event.
Barbadian dub poet Winston Farrell will be telling at this
festival for the first time. He is a popular
dramatist/poet/performer throughout the Caribbean and will bring
both joy and thoughtfulness with his "riddim poetry".
The dynamic Trinidad contingent will be led, as
usual, by Samantha Pierre ("Ma Story") and supported by the ol' time
calypsonian specialists David Bereaux and Friends. Calypso will not
be complete without the remarkable "extempo" experts who can
improvise at the drop of a word – literally.
